Includes correspondence, notebooks, reports, log books, drawings and photographs documenting Faughn's career at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1947-1974). The majority of the material represents his years as captain of several SIO vessels: R/V Horizon on Midpac Expedition (1950); Northern Holiday Expedition (1951); R/V Stranger during Naga Expedition (1958-1961) in the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea; R/V Alpha Helix during Billabong Expedition (1966) in Australia, as well as Amazon Expedition (1967). The collection includes very few items documenting Faughn's naval career (1927-1947).
